Houseplant Care
The early frost took many of us by surprise, myself included. Late last Friday night I was madly bringing in pot after pot of tender plants rescuing them from the frigid temps. And most are still sitting there, crammed together on newspaper by the french doors patiently waiting for some much needed attention. My checklist for this weekend includes:

*  new pots  Most of my plants actually grew over the summer and are now rootbound and need a new pot.
*  fresh potting soil  for a fresh start with no bugs
* systemic insecticide a granular that's easy to add to the surface of the soil and water in. It's added insurance against any vacationing hitchhikers, but don't use it on edible plants like rosemary
* insecticidal soap
works fast on whiteflies, aphids, and mealybugs
* plastic & clay saucers where did they all go from last winter?!

Remember indoor plants won't need any food until early March. With a little TLC, my plants will be happy this winter, and being surrounded by green will keep me happier, too.  - Tracy Hankwitz
